Context
Austin is a New York-based photographer who specializes in documentary, street, and urban photography. His current brand and site needed to be redeveloped to be more impactful at showcasing his work to attract new business opportunities.
From Person to Personal Brand
To ensure this project starts on the right foot, I conducted initial research and provided Austin with a client questionnaire so I could get a clear understanding of the current state of Austin's photography business and his goals for the future.
Based on my questionnaire and discussion with Austin, I’ve identified that this project requires additional support in three key areas: defining the target audience, developing the brand, and creating a functional website to showcase his skills and attract work opportunities.

Branding Questions
Tone of Voice
Versatile
Capable of adapting style and technique to various urban environments and editorial assignments.
Dynamic
Capable of capturing dynamic and vibrant scenes, conveying energy and movement.
Adventurous
Explores diverse locations and subjects, capturing unique moments.
Observant
Pays close attention to surroundings and details, capturing the essence of life.
COLORS
The goal is to establish a connection by using colors that convey traits like observance, naturalness, and adventurousness. To achieve this, we have selected earth tones that embody these qualities.
Typography
To achieve a modern visual impact, we have opted for a serif and sans-serif typeface.
Logo
When designing the logo, I carefully considered colors, typography, and how to best represent Austin's personality. The logos needed to be versatile and work well in both color and monochrome settings. I explored various designs to ensure they remain identifiable across different sizes and applications.
Audience
After developing Austin’s brand, I could conclude a website that serves as an online portfolio, showcasing his best work in a visually appealing and organized manner would be impactful.
This website would target two primary target audiences: the core audience of potential clients—individuals looking to hire a photographer for weddings, portraits, events, commercial shoots, and more—and a secondary audience of art buyers and collectors, interested in purchasing prints or licensing images for various uses.
competition
To give Austin a competitive edge, I analyzed photographers' portfolios in advertising and photojournalism to understand their website structures, communication methods, and audience engagement, ensuring Austin's site is user-friendly and effective.
This comprehensive approach ensures Austin's website stands out visually, communicates his unique value, and enhances his visibility and appeal by leveraging competitor insights and aligning with industry standards.
Initial Site
The initial sitemap and content attempt to capture everything, branding Austin as a generalist. However, it lacked the distinctive branding and personality needed to make him immediately identifiable and marketable.
Additionally, each page didn’t provide information, call to action, or encourage users to return, contact, or purchase prints.
A revision would need to address each of these items: branding, navigation, categories & about page.
Wire Framing
In the initial research phase, I examined Austin’s social presence and preexisting website to understand how he communicates and presents himself as a photographer. I analyzed his existing website to gain insights into the user experience, messaging, and overall narrative.
